Anne-Maria Makhulu

Anne-Maria Makhulu is a Professor in the Department of African & African American Studies at Duke University. Her work focuses on ethnographic research, cultural anthropology, and the study of African and African American communities, addressing themes of social justice, colonialism, and postcolonial identity formations.

As part of Duke's interdisciplinary African & African American Studies program, she contributes to research and teaching that bridges historical and contemporary issues in the African diaspora. The department fosters critical engagement with race, ethnicity, and global Black experiences through faculty-led initiatives and academic collaborations.
