Prof. Dr. Anne Köchling is a Professor of Tourism in the Department of Economics at the West Coast University of Applied Sciences. She serves as Deputy Director of the German Institute for Tourism Research and Vice Dean for Research in the Faculty of Economics. Her research focuses on travel behavior, destination marketing, crisis impacts on tourism, and sustainable development. She is actively involved in projects such as destination brand analysis, tourism intensity effects on quality of life, and post-pandemic travel behavior trends.
Research interests include: destination branding strategies, crisis management in tourism, digital destination experiences, and the interplay between tourism and urban sustainability. Recent work explores Instagram's impact on destination choices for Gen Z and the moderating role of tourism intensity in urban areas.
She leads the 'Practice-Based Case Study Seminars' for tourism students, collaborating with the German Tourism Association on surveys about tourism's impact on quality of life. Her research has been published in journals like Current Issues in Tourism and Journal of Destination Marketing and Management. She also co-authored the Tourismusatlas Deutschland series and serves as a Deputy Equal Opportunities Officer for the Business Department.
Labs/Initiatives: Co-leads the German Institute for Tourism Research, contributing to projects such as the Reiseanalyse Trendstudie 2030 and indicator-based destination management tools like the Tourismus-Fachinformationssystem (T-Fis).
