Anne Julie Semb is a Professor and currently Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Oslo. She holds a Dr.polit. (PhD) from the University of Oslo (2000) and has been affiliated with the Department of Political Science since 2001. Her research focuses on state sovereignty, minority rights (particularly Sami citizenship in Norway), human rights, and conflict studies. She has held key roles including Associate Professor (2003–2013) and Professor (2013–present). Professional service includes membership in the National Committee for Research Ethics in the Social Sciences and Humanities (2003–2009), the Norwegian Center for Human Rights Board (2006–2011), and the Consultative Council for Defense Studies (2014–present).
Her research explores intersections of state policy, minority rights, and international law, with notable publications analyzing the Finnmark Act, Sami political status, and Norway’s compliance with ILO Convention 169. She contributes to the Oslo Political Theory research group and has advised on national and international policy matters. No current teaching or student supervision is listed during her deanship tenure.
