About
Anne Jerslev is a Professor in the Department of Communication at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Copenhagen, and holds an adjunct position as Professor II at the University of Oslo. She has served as Head of Department and Head of Section since the 1990s, demonstrating deep institutional leadership within media and communication studies.
Her research spans celebrity studies, audience reception, TV entertainment, women's media representation, social media dynamics, and David Lynch's cinematic works. Current projects focus on ageing in media, older women's media consumption, and celebrity culture through the lens of figures like Jane Fonda.
Recent publications (2022-2025) reveal a concentrated shift toward digital culture, analyzing influencer economies, scandalization mechanisms, and platform-driven identity construction. These works consistently bridge classical media theory with contemporary social media phenomena.
Her scientific recognition includes:
- Fulbright Scholar (1995)
- Member of Academia Europaea (since 2015)
Jerslev has supervised three PhD candidates to completion and secured major funding from Danish, Nordic, and international bodies including the Velux Foundation (5.3 million DKr) and University of Copenhagen (20 million DKr). Her grant portfolio spans youth media, visual culture, ethics in contemporary media, and ageing studies.
She actively participates in ECREA, Society for Cinema and Media Studies, and the Fan Studies Network, maintaining cross-border scholarly engagement through editorial work and conference leadership.
