Dr. Anne Hansen is an Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and Medical Director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Boston Children’s Hospital since 2003. She earned her MD from Harvard Medical School and an MPH in Clinical Effectiveness from the Harvard School of Public Health. Her research focuses on improving newborn care through medical device innovation, global health initiatives, and clinical guidelines. She has developed affordable medical devices such as a reusable infant warmer and collaborated with Rwanda’s Ministry of Health to establish national neonatal care standards.
Dr. Hansen is a leader in medical education, co-editing the Manual of Neonatal Care (8th ed.) and Manual of Neonatal Surgical Intensive Care (3rd ed.). She chairs multiple hospital committees and is affiliated with OPENPediatrics, a global medical education platform. Her awards recognize her mentorship and dedication to humanistic medicine.
Her innovations include a central venous catheter to reduce infections, minimally invasive esophageal treatments, and therapeutic hypothermia protocols. She advocates for global health equity through partnerships with organizations like Partners In Health and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.
