Dr. Anne Hansen is the Allan H. Selig Distinguished Leadership Professor of History at UW-Madison, specializing in Buddhist ethics, Southeast Asian religious history, and colonial/modern Buddhism. Her research examines ethics of care in Buddhist thought and local interpretations of Theravada Buddhism within transnational networks.
Research Focus:
Hansen investigates Buddhist visual ethics in Cambodian cultural history, Buddhist temporality during the Cold War, colonial religious transformations, and modern reform movements. Her scholarly contributions reinterpret Buddhist ethical frameworks through historical and cultural lenses.
