Anne Engel is an Associate Professor of German at Wayne State University’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, specializing in transdisciplinary research bridging German Studies with American popular culture and qualitative social sciences. Her work focuses on trauma representation, Holocaust memory, and East German cultural history. She holds a Ph.D. from UCLA (2003) and degrees from Humboldt University (Berlin) and Rostock University.
Engel’s research has been supported by grants including the Career Development Chair (2015/16) and President’s Research Enhancement Program (2014/15). Her monograph *Popular Trauma Culture* (2011) critiques the commodification of trauma in mass media. Current projects include a study on German-Israeli identity and a textbook co-authored with Donnie Johnson Sackey integrating German language instruction with professional writing.
