Dr Anne Elliott is a Senior Lecturer in Sport Science at Middlesex University’s London Sports Institute, where she serves as Programme Leader for the MSc Exercise and Physical Activity for Special Populations and Healthy Ageing. She is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and actively contributes to pedagogy, research, and public policy in physical activity and healthy ageing.
Her research focuses on exercise in special populations, particularly middle-aged and menopausal women, healthy ageing, and applied embodiment. She employs qualitative methodologies such as narrative inquiry and grounded theory to explore lifecourse physical activity. Her work bridges academia and industry, influencing national standards and guidelines.
Her recent publications span topics including gamification in health, resistance training in postmenopausal women, physical activity barriers in Type 2 Diabetes, and the reform of personal trainer standards. These works reflect a strong interdisciplinary focus on public health, sport pedagogy, and behavioral science.

Dr Elliott supervises doctoral researchers, including Stephen Orwin, and has secured multiple consultancies and grants through her policy contributions. She is also an active peer reviewer and editorial board member for journals including International Journal of the Sociology of Leisure and World Leisure Journal.
She leads a specialist private practice and has contributed to media and public discourse on midlife fitness, with her book endorsed by senior health officials. She previously served as Health Editor for online and community publications and developed physical activity programs for cancer patients.
