Anne E. Lester is John W. Baldwin and Jenny Jochens Associate Professor of Medieval History at Johns Hopkins University. Her research examines social and religious history in medieval Europe through archival documents, material culture, and relics, focusing on northern France, the Mediterranean, and Crusader states. Current projects analyze relic translation after the Fourth Crusade and devotional practices connecting Europe with Byzantium and Outremer.
Author of Creating Cistercian Nuns (2011, winner of SMFS Best First Book Prize), which explores women's religious communities in 13th-century Champagne. Current book projects include Fragments of Devotion: Relic and Remembrance in the Aftermath of the Fourth Crusades and Crusades and Devotion.
