Anne-Claude Ambroise-Rendu

Dr. Anne-Claude Ambroise-Rendu is a Professor of Contemporary History at the University of Versailles - Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines (UVSQ) and serves as Director of the Centre for Cultural History of Contemporary Societies (CHCSC) since 2020. Her research focuses on the evolution of media representations and societal perceptions related to human interest stories, pedo-criminality (child sexual abuse), and ecological issues from the 19th century to present day. As Deputy Director of the Institute of Cultural and International Studies (IECI), she promotes interdisciplinary research at the intersection of history, media studies, and cultural analysis.

Her scholarly work bridges historical research with contemporary social debates, particularly through books like Crimes and Offences: A History of Violence from the Belle Époque to the Present Day (2006) and History of the Pedophile: 19th-21st Centuries (2014). She was further involved in co-editing A History of Environmental Conflicts: Local Struggles, Global Issues (2019) and A History of Environmental Struggles: 18th-20th Centuries (2021), emphasizing early technocritical thought and media’s role in shaping environmental awareness.

At CHCSC, she leads a multidisc (or school) of research on cultural objects, media, and heritage with international dimensions. Her teaching philosophy combines rigor and mentorship, covering media history, crime, justice, and environmental concerns. She actively engages the public through partnerships with institutions like the Palace of Versailles and Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines museum.
