Annabel Matison

Dr. Annabel Matison is a Post Doctoral Research Fellow at the Centre for Healthy Brain Ageing (CHeBA) at the University of New South Wales. Transitioning from a career in finance, she pursued a Master’s in Human Nutrition at Deakin University and earned her PhD from UNSW in 2024, focusing on nutrition, genetics, and depression in older adults.

• Research Focus: Social determinants of dementia risk, including education, income, neighborhood conditions, and nutrition.
• Current Projects: Social frailty and dementia risk, international studies on socioeconomic factors, childhood food insecurity in Latin America, and environmental impacts on aging.
• Collaborations: Interdisciplinary work with geneticists and psychologists using longitudinal datasets (twin studies, centenarian cohorts, international data).

Goals: Advocate for diet as a modifiable dementia risk factor and address health inequities through prevention strategies. Her work emphasizes reducing disparities linked to race, geography, and opportunity.
