Annabel Frearson

Dr Annabel Frearson is a visual artist, writer, and researcher whose practice interrogates intersections between language, sound, and contemporary visual culture. Affiliated with the University of Reading, her work spans peer-reviewed scholarship, solo and collaborative exhibitions, artists’ books, and live performances presented internationally since 2013.

Research Interests:
Her research re-examines Romantic subjectivity through sonic experience, critiques data-driven aesthetics, and explores the materiality of the book-as-artwork. Projects repeatedly return to Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein as a critical lens on technology and embodiment, while outputs such as Datocracy (2016) interrogate the politics of algorithmic culture.

Recent work investigates infomanticism—a term she coined to describe contemporary re-enchantments of data—examining how situated sound installations can refigure historical Romantic tropes within urban space.
