About
Anna-Sofia Preece is a Lecturer at Karlstad University with a PhD in Public Health Science. Her research focuses on environmental chemical exposure, particularly phthalates in indoor environments and their impacts on children's health. She is affiliated with the SELMA longitudinal study investigating endocrine disrupting chemicals' effects on Värmland children. Preece teaches Public Health courses including Health, environment and sustainable development and Epidemiology and Public Health Work, alongside Chemistry and Biology courses.
Her research emphasizes the 'Full Chain Model' linking chemical sources to health effects, with special attention to phthalates' roles in airway disorders like wheeze and croup. Key contributions include analyzing phthalate levels in bedroom dust, prenatal/postnatal exposure pathways, and maternal intake during pregnancy. Recent work (2025) explores how indoor parameters influence phthalate concentrations.
Preece has published extensively in Environmental Research, Indoor Air, and Journal of Exposure Science. Her doctoral thesis (2021) provides a comprehensive analysis of phthalate exposure chains. Though no awards are noted, her work demonstrates methodological innovation in exposure modeling and longitudinal cohort analysis. Teaching and research activities are tightly integrated with public health priorities in environmental sustainability.
