About
Dr Anna Sheppard is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Adelaide, Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology. Her research lies at the intersection of bioinformatics, bacterial genomics, and public health, with a strong focus on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and mobile genetic elements (MGEs) within a One Health framework.
She completed her PhD at the University of Adelaide in 2009, followed by postdoctoral training at Kiel University (Germany) and the University of Oxford (UK), before returning to the University of Adelaide in December 2021 to establish her research group.
- Research Focus: Molecular epidemiology and transmission of bacterial pathogens using whole-genome sequencing
- Specialization: AMR gene dissemination via plasmids, transposons, and integrons
- Technologies: Integration of short-read and long-read sequencing for complete genome assembly
- Applications: Infection control, surveillance strategies, and understanding genomic rearrangements in AMR spread
Her work has been published in leading journals including New England Journal of Medicine, Nature Microbiology, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. She actively welcomes postgraduate and undergraduate students from both biological and computational backgrounds to join her lab, although prior bioinformatics experience is not mandatory.
Currently, no specific scientific awards, grants, or student names are listed in the available text. No email address is provided in the profile.
