Dr. Anna Piper is a Senior Lecturer in Fashion Management and Communication at Sheffield Hallam University's Department of Art and Design, within the College of Health, Wellbeing and Life Sciences. A textile designer and researcher, she specializes in weaving and focuses on sustainable garment production through hand, digital, and hybrid techniques. She completed her practice-led PhD in 2019 after earning degrees in Textile Design (BA) and Textile Design Innovation (MA).
Her current research examines sustainable development of indigenous textile production in Guatemala, including the pandemic's impact on artisans. She explores how indigenous approaches can inform Western fashion practices. Piper has exhibited internationally and collaborates with Nottingham Trent University and the Ixchel Museum.
She teaches modules including Marketing Concepts, Visual Methodologies, Fashion Forecasting, and Industry Engagement. Her research has been presented at international conferences including Digital Research in the Humanities and Arts and Futurescan.
