About
Professor Anna Mdee is a faculty member at the School of Politics and International Studies, University of Leeds. She has been a Professor in the Politics of Global Development since 2019 and joined as Associate Professor in International Development in 2016. From January 2025, she will collaborate with the African School of Governance in Kigali, Rwanda.
Her research focuses on the politics of global development, aid systems, local governance, and natural resource management. She has extensive fieldwork experience in Tanzania over 30 years and has worked in Kenya, Nepal, Rwanda, South Africa, Uganda, Nigeria, and Tajikistan.
- Established policy/governance workstream for UKRI GCRF Water Security Hub (2019-2024)
- Lead political economy workstream for UKRI GCRF SOS project (2020-2024)
- Principal Investigator for DFID-ESRC local governance index project in Tanzania (2014-2017)
Her research combines anthropological approaches with critical reflective practice to analyze development politics and service delivery systems.
