Anna-Karin Olsson

Anna-Karin Olsson is a Professor at the Department of Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology, Uppsala University, Sweden. Her research focuses on the intersection of cancer biology and vascular immunology, with emphasis on tumor-induced inflammation, neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs), and platelet-neutrophil crosstalk in metastasis.

Olsson’s work explores how the angiogenesis inhibitor histidine-rich glycoprotein (HRG) modulates tumor progression and vascular dysfunction. She has pioneered therapeutic vaccines targeting tumor vasculature and investigated NETs as drivers of systemic inflammation in cancer. Her studies span breast cancer, glioblastoma, and cerebral cavernous malformations, with implications for metastasis and organ failure.

Recent publications highlight collaborations with international teams on AGuIX® nanoparticles for photodynamic therapy and NET inhibition strategies in inflammatory diseases. Her lab has developed biodegradable vaccine carriers and identified novel targets like PDGFB and CD93 in tumor angiogenesis.
