Anna Hankin

Dr Anna Hankin is a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Imperial College London, part of the Faculty of Engineering. She leads the Electrochemical Systems Laboratory and co-directs the MRes Molecular Engineering course at the Institute of Molecular Science and Engineering. Her roles include Outreach Co-ordinator in her department and Secretary of the Sustainability Special Interest Group at the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE). She holds editorial and advisory positions for journals and national networks.

Dr Hankin's research focuses on electrochemical energy conversion, CO₂ reduction, and industrial material recycling. Her work integrates experimental and computational methods to advance technologies like photoelectrochemical water splitting, solar hydrogen production, and scalable reactor design. Key areas include semiconductor-electrolyte interface characterization, microkinetic modeling of electrochemical processes, and metal recovery via electrodeposition.

She collaborates across disciplines within the Electrochemistry Network and Energy Futures Lab at Imperial, addressing challenges in sustainable energy systems through material innovation and process engineering. Her research portfolio spans 20+ years with contributions to reactor optimization, photocatalyst development, and environmental sustainability assessments.
