Anna Gupta is a Professor in the Department of Law and Criminology at Royal Holloway, University of London. Her research focuses on child protection, poverty, racial inequalities, and social justice, particularly in contexts involving Black and minority ethnic communities and unaccompanied migrant youth. She has co-authored key publications such as Protecting Children: A Social Model and co-edited Unaccompanied Young Migrants: Identity, Care and Justice.
Education: PhD in Social Work (Royal Holloway, 2016), MA in Child Protection Studies (University of Leicester, 1994), BA in Social Work (La Trobe University, 1986).
She leads projects on racial disparities in child welfare and pandemic impacts (ESRC-funded CO-POWeR), and currently chairs the Child Welfare Inequalities Network. She has been a co-editor of the Research in Social Work series and served on editorial boards of major journals like British Journal of Social Work.
Her recent work emphasizes participatory approaches with service users and transformative activism in child protection systems. She received the Reid Research Fund Award 2024 for collaborative research on marginalized families.
