Dr. Anna Grimaldi is a Lecturer in Politics and International Relations at the University of Leeds, joining in June 2022. Previously, she held lecturing positions in History and International Development at King’s College London. She holds a joint PhD in Global Affairs from King’s College London and the University of São Paulo, alongside an MSc in Brazilian Studies and a BA in Spanish, Portuguese, and Latin American Studies, all from King’s College London.
Her research focuses on transnational networks of solidarity with the Global South, particularly Latin America and Brazil’s role in shaping the global human rights movement during the Cold War. She is publishing a book, Brazil and the Transnational Human Rights Movement 1964-1985 (October 2022), and explores Tricontinentalism through visual and cultural artefacts. She co-founded Thinking Inside the Box, a student-led project connecting archival collections to social justice struggles.
Grimaldi is an Editor at Brasiliana, Treasurer of ABRE (Associação de Brasilianistas na Europa), and a member of Radical Americas and King’s Observatorium on Democracy in Latin America (KODLA). She emphasizes decolonial pedagogy, collaborating with the Brilliant Club and CityLit for educational outreach.
