Dr. Anna Frasca-Rath is a University Assistant in the Department of Art History at the University of Vienna's Faculty of Historical and Cultural Studies. Her research focuses on European Art History from the 17th-19th centuries, with specializations in sculpture, artist myths, transnational exchange processes in European art, and digital art history.
Her current research includes the Jubiläumsfonds project 'Right to the Museum? An Austrian Study on Museum Concepts of the Public and Their Perception' (2020-2022), which examines public perceptions of museum authority and access. Dr. Frasca-Rath is also deeply engaged in digital art history, having organized 14 networking events for the Austrian Digital Art History network since 2015 and developed the virtual exhibition 'The Gibson Trail' in collaboration with the Royal Academy of Arts in London.
Dr. Frasca-Rath has published extensively on 19th century sculpture, particularly focusing on John Gibson and Antonio Canova, examining their networks, studios, and contributions to art history. Her work often bridges traditional art historical methods with digital approaches, exploring how new technologies can enhance our understanding of historical artistic practices and networks. She has organized numerous international conferences and workshops on topics ranging from marble's value and perception to digital perspectives on art collecting.
