Prof. Anna Coninx is a full Professor of Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure Law, and Philosophy of Law at the University of Lucerne’s Faculty of Law, serving since March 2023. Previously, she held roles at the Universities of Bern and Zurich, including assistant professor with tenure track at Lucerne (2018–2023). She holds a Dr. iur. from the University of Bern (2011), an MJur from the University of Oxford (2014, distinction), and completed postdoctoral scholarships at the Hans Sigrist Foundation. Her research focuses on crime prevention beyond penal sentences, criminal law philosophy, and interdisciplinary legal studies. She is Vice Director of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Legal Studies (lucernaiuris) and a member of the Obwalden Institute for Justice Research. Active in public service, she served in Bern’s city and cantonal parliaments (2002–2008), focusing on judicial and legislative matters. Additional roles include investigator for sexual harassment at Lucerne University and board member of 'Unser Recht' association.
Research highlights include her postdoctoral thesis on 'Crime prevention beyond penal sentences: the purpose and limits of intensive preventative measures'. Awards include the Walther Hug Prize and recognition for her doctoral work on legal philosophy. Her teaching spans criminal law, procedure, and interdisciplinary legal ethics.
