Anna Colin

Anna Colin is a Senior Lecturer and Programme Director of the MFA Curating program at Goldsmiths, University of London. Her practice integrates curatorial work, ecological stewardship, and critical pedagogy, focusing on alternative educational models and the intersection of art with environmental sustainability.

• Co-founder and former director (2013–2021) of Open School East, an independent art school and community space.
• PhD in Geography from the University of Nottingham (2022), examining multi-public educational and cultural spaces.
• Active in horticulture and permaculture, with certifications from the Royal Horticultural Society and Permaculture Association UK.
• Collaborated with institutions such as Lafayette Anticipations, Bétonsalon, and Gasworks.

Her research spans ecocentric social practice, critical pedagogy, and alternative institutional models. She explores how art can engage with ecological and social systems, including the agricultural and digital commons, the Black Atlantic, the witch as a feminist/queer symbol, and colonialism’s environmental impact. Recent projects emphasize non-linear institutional time, regenerative practices, and the role of art in addressing climate change through cyclical, community-driven approaches.

Anna’s publications and projects include Chaleur Humaine (2023), a triennial on energy narratives, and Sunken Ecologies (2021), focusing on community stewardship of green spaces. Her 2025 book Alternative Pedagogical Spaces: From Utopia to Institutionalization synthesizes her long-term research on alternative educational models.

Her curatorial work has been featured at venues including FRAC Grand-Large Hauts-de-France, Whitechapel Gallery, and Gasworks. She has held residencies at LUMA Arles and FRAME-HIAP Helsinki, and has co-edited multiple exhibition catalogues and readers.
