Anna Chatzi

Dr. Anna Chatzi is an Associate Professor in the School of Nursing & Midwifery at the University of Limerick. Her academic background includes a PhD in Human Factors from the University of Southern Queensland (2019), an MSc in Education from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (2006), and a Nursing degree from the Hellenic Military Nursing Academy (2001). With over 20 years of experience as a registered nurse, army officer, and educational manager, her work bridges healthcare and aviation human factors, emphasizing safety, quality, and interprofessional collaboration.

Her research focuses on patient safety, human factors in healthcare and aviation, and nursing education. She has pioneered studies on mentorship programs, personality traits influencing safety attitudes, and the application of aviation-derived safety frameworks to healthcare. Her recent work explores digital documentation in aviation maintenance, gender stereotypes in STEM fields, and the role of concept maps in nursing/midwifery education.

Dr. Chatzi co-leads the interdisciplinary Safety Themes Group and serves on editorial boards for journals like BMC Nursing and International Journal of Health Governance. She also holds external roles such as Program Board Member for the International Conference on Engineering Psychology and Cognitive Ergonomics.

Her teaching interests include promoting safety culture in healthcare, curriculum development, and evidence-based practice. She currently supervises PhD projects investigating personality-safety relationships and risk management models for wastewater treatment systems.
