Anna Blomley is a Departmental Lecturer in Classical Archaeology at the University of Oxford’s Faculty of Classics, affiliated with Corpus Christi College. She completed her BA at the University of Heidelberg and MPhil/DPhil at Oxford. Her research integrates archaeological, epigraphic, and GIS methodologies to explore political and economic structures through ancient landscapes. Current projects focus on Thessalian environmental interactions and Hellenistic fortifications in the Argolid. She teaches Greek art/archaeology and ancient history modules.
Academic Background: Postgraduate training at Oxford (Corpus Christi College), excavations in Greece, Albania, Germany, and Switzerland. Previously held the Esmée Fairbairn Junior Research Fellowship at New College (2018–2022).
Research Interests: Landscape archaeology, ancient numismatics, and socio-economic analysis of fortifications. Combines material culture studies with geospatial data to investigate human-environment dynamics in antiquity.
Publications span numismatic studies, fortification analysis, and sacred landscape investigations. Recent works include a monograph on Thessalian bronze coinage (2024) and studies on Demetrias’ coin hoards and Zar Trypa Cave rituals.
Teaching focuses on Greek art history, aristocracy/democracy in the Greek world, and interdisciplinary methodologies. Active in archaeological fieldwork and collaborative digital humanities projects.
