Anna Berka

Anna Berka is a Senior Lecturer at Massey University's School of Management and Marketing, with a focus on energy, social innovation, governance, and policy. She also holds a Research Fellow position at Griffith University in Australia and collaborates with the Community Power Agency, a not-for-profit organization advocating for equitable energy transitions. Her interdisciplinary approach bridges biological sciences, environmental economics, and policy, informed by her academic background and fieldwork in India, Cameroon, the UK, and New Zealand.

Anna's recent work, co-authored with colleagues at the University of Victoria and the Re-Imagining Social Energy Transitions CoLaboratory (ReSET CoLab), analyzes six proposed models for a First Nations power authority in British Columbia. These models range from capacity-building partnerships to fully independent utilities, aiming to align energy development with Indigenous sovereignty and climate goals.

Anna Berka's professional activities span academia and social entrepreneurship. She has advised clean energy startups in India, Cameroon, and the UK, and collaborated with organizations like the Clean Energy Association of British Columbia, New Relationship Trust, and Pembina Institute. Her current research is supported by grants from Natural Resources Canada's Clean Energy for Rural and Remote Communities Program (CERRC), the New Frontiers in Research Fund (NFRFG-2020-00339), and the Canada Research Chair Secretariat (CRC-2020-00055).
