Dr. Ann Lorek is a Lecturer and Consultant Paediatrician at King’s College London, based in the School of Education, Communication & Society within the Faculty of Social Science & Public Policy. She teaches on the International Child Rights and Development MA program and leads the Child Health and Development module. With over 20 years of experience as a community paediatrician in southeast London, she specializes in safeguarding children and families, refugee health, and brain injury prevention.
Her research focuses on child safeguarding challenges, including the impact of social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic and the effectiveness of multi-agency safeguarding reforms. Notable projects include evaluating Local Safeguarding Children Partnerships (LSCPs) and investigating pandemic-era child protection responses.
Dr. Lorek holds a Designated Doctor role for Safeguarding Children and Young People and has contributed to policy discussions through publications and news features. She currently does not supervise PhD students.
