Dr. Anlan Chen is a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) in Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Bath, School of Management, within the Management, Strategy & Organisation department and Centre for Research in Entrepreneurship and Innovation. She holds an office in 10 EAST 2.29 and is actively accepting doctoral students for supervision.
Her research sits at the intersection of Entrepreneurship, Strategy and Innovation. Dr. Chen's early work focused on the role of innovation in shaping firms' operational strategies and their strategic adaptations to external environments. More recently, her research has shifted towards investigating firm growth at different stages of entrepreneurship, with specific focus on growth trajectories of new ventures within University Innovation and Entrepreneurial Ecosystems, SME growth in cultural and creative industries, and corporate entrepreneurship in social enterprises.
Dr. Chen's scholarly work demonstrates strong trends in digital transformation, particularly examining how digital technologies impact social enterprises, business ecosystems, and supply chain operations. Her research spans multiple contexts including China, the UK, and international settings, with particular attention to cultural and creative industries.

Dr. Chen actively collaborates with business practitioners and values cross-disciplinary research partnerships. She has led multiple research projects including INT-ENT: Supporting high impact international graduate entrepreneurs with entrepreneurship visa schemes (2023), Digital transformation and SME growth in cultural and creative industries (2022-2023), and research on circular entrepreneurship in tourism (2020-2021). She has also been a visiting researcher at prestigious institutions including University of Cambridge (2017), Tsinghua University (2019), and Zhejiang University (2022), and served as chair for the European Academy of Management conferences in 2022 and 2024.
Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to economic growth, innovation, and responsible consumption and production.
