About
Professor Anish Roy holds the position of Professor of Mechanics of Materials and Processes and serves as the Associate Dean of Research & Innovation. He obtained his B.Tech from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (1999), followed by MS in Civil and Environmental Engineering and a PhD in Computational Science and Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University (USA). His research focuses on defect mechanics, crystal plasticity modeling in magnesium alloys, hybrid machining techniques, and ballistic impact dynamics. He chairs the Applied Mechanics Group at the Institute of Physics (IoP) and is a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
His research interests include computational models for dislocation dynamics, micro-machining simulations, and advanced materials processing. Notable projects involve developing crystal-plasticity models for magnesium alloys and studying deformation mechanisms in aerospace materials. He has secured significant research funding and maintains collaborations globally.
Key achievements include the Graduate Student Scholarship at Carnegie Mellon (2001-2005) and leadership in interdisciplinary projects. His work bridges theory and application, with contributions to ultrasonically assisted machining, blast resistance composites, and energy-efficient manufacturing techniques.
