Dr. Animikh Biswas is a Professor and Chair in the Department of Mathematics & Statistics at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). His research focuses on nonlinear partial differential equations, geophysical fluid dynamics, turbulence theory, and data assimilation. He holds a B.S. from the Indian Statistical Institute (1991), an M.S. from the Indian Statistical Institute (1993), and a Ph.D. from Indiana University, Bloomington (2000), under the supervision of Prof. Ciprian Foias.
Dr. Biswas's research explores well-posedness and long-term dynamics of Navier-Stokes, Euler, and related equations, with applications to geophysical fluid dynamics and turbulence theory. He has also contributed to functional data analysis, systems theory, and H∞ control theory. His recent work emphasizes data assimilation techniques and their application to fluid dynamics problems, including error estimates for deep learning methods and mesh-free interpolant observables.
