Angus H Ferguson

Dr Angus H Ferguson is a Senior Lecturer in Political & International Studies and an Associate in the School of Health & Wellbeing at the University of Glasgow. His research focuses on the historical evolution of medical confidentiality and privacy, particularly in Britain, with an emphasis on policy-practice intersections and international comparisons. Additional research interests include infant health history, medical ethics, and law-medicine interactions.

He has organized conferences such as 'Medical Confidentiality and Privacy: Past, Present and Future' (co-organized with Prof. Maehle) and 'Foetal Fortunes'. His work integrates interdisciplinary approaches, emphasizing historical frameworks to inform contemporary debates. Key publications include Should a Doctor Tell? (2013) and articles in Social History of Medicine and Journal of Medical Law and Ethics.

Ferguson holds grants from ESRC/EPSRC, Wellcome Trust, and the Lord Kelvin Adam Smith Fellowship. He supervises PhD topics on medical ethics, infant welfare, and palliative care history. Teaching includes undergraduate and postgraduate courses on medicine and the state, innovations in Western medicine, and medical history from 1850.
