Professor Angie Tran is a Professor of Political Economy in the Social Sciences and Global Studies Department at California State University, Monterey Bay's College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, where she has taught for over 25 years.
Her research focuses on transnational labor migration, particularly between Vietnam and Malaysia, examining how ethnicity, class, gender, religion, and cultural resources intersect in migrant experiences. She has published extensively on critical perspectives on Corporate Social Responsibility, labor-management-state relations in Vietnam, and the impacts of international trade agreements on workers.
Professor Tran's notable publication is her 2022 book 'Ethnic Dissent and Empowerment: Economic Migration between Vietnam and Malaysia,' which analyzes five different ethnic groups from Vietnam working as guestworkers in Malaysia. She also co-authored research on H-2A visa guestworkers in California's agricultural industry.
