Angie Cruz is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of English at the University of Pittsburgh, where she also directs the Writing Program and affiliates with the Center for African American Poetry and Poetics (CAAPP). A celebrated novelist and editor, she holds a BA in English and MFA in Creative Writing from New York University. Her work centers on immigrant experiences, cultural identity, and social justice.
Her major publications include the critically acclaimed novels *Dominicana* (2019) and *How Not To Drown in A Glass of Water* (2022), both recognized with prestigious awards such as the Neustadt Prize Finalist and Women’s Prize Shortlist. Cruz founded the visual archive @dominicanasnyc documenting Dominican women’s NYC histories and co-edits the transnational feminist journal *Aster(ix)*.
Her research interests span Latinx narratives, literary innovation, and community archiving. Awards include the 2025 USA Fellowship and the John Dos Passos Prize for Literature. Teaching focuses on creative writing pedagogy, emphasizing storytelling as a transformative practice.
