Angelika J. Budjan is an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Economics and Law, University of Stuttgart, where she is affiliated with the Department of Macroeconomics and Digital Transformation. Her research bridges development economics, environmental economics, and political economy, with a strong empirical focus using experimental and geospatial data.
Her research interests lie at the intersection of sustainable development, institutional barriers, and behavioral factors influencing economic outcomes. She employs rigorous empirical methods, including field experiments and satellite-based geospatial analysis, to investigate political and institutional constraints to sustainable development policies.
Angelika was awarded the Faculty Award by the Heidelberg Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences and received the 1st Prize for Excellence in Applied Development Research from the German Economics Association and KfW Development Bank for her doctoral work on Financing for Sustainable Development: Emerging Issues and Actors.
Her current research is supported by the Joachim-Herz Foundation and the International Growth Centre. She has previously worked at major international institutions including the World Bank, the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre, and the International Red Cross, bringing extensive applied policy experience to her academic work.
