Angela Tozer

Angela Tozer is an Associate Professor in the Department of Historical Studies at the University of New Brunswick, specializing in Canadian history with a focus on the 19th century. Her research examines the intersections of capitalism and settler colonialism, emphasizing oral history alongside archival sources. She holds a PhD from McGill University (2020), an MA (2012), and an Honours BA from the University of Toronto (2010).

Her research interests include colonialism, diasporas, environmental history, Indigenous history, and the Atlantic world. She prioritizes collaborative work with Indigenous and settler communities, particularly through oral history and digital storytelling methods.

Recent work includes a SSHRC-funded study on eel fisheries and treaty rights, exploring how global capital impacts Indigenous sovereignty. Collaborative projects include Wolasuweltomuwakon: Together in Gratitude (2023), guided by Wabanaki Elder methodologies, leading to an edited collection critiquing academic mentorship models.

Dr. Tozer is currently accepting graduate students researching capitalism, settler colonialism, environmental history, and Atlantic Canada. She advocates for decolonial approaches to academia that prioritize community-led knowledge production.
