Angel Solis

Angel Solis is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biology at Carleton College, where he has been teaching since 2024. His research program focuses on immunological mechanisms and host-pathogen dynamics within mammalian systems.

Dr. Solis investigates the regulation of inflammation through dual research pathways: (1) how physical and chemical environments influence inflammatory progression and infection clearance using mammalian cell lines, and (2) bacterial evolutionary adaptations to immunological pressures and novel gene functions in host-associated microbes. His laboratory employs quantitative PCR, ELISAs, western blots, and CRISPR-based genetic engineering to analyze gene expression changes. Key research areas include mechanosensation in immunity, microbiome-epithelial interactions, and mucosal barrier regulation.
