Andy West

Andy West is a Senior Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Physiology at the University of Chichester, specializing in energy provision during exercise and its adaptations to training, inactivity, and aging. He holds a BSc (2008), MSc (2011), and PhD (2018) from Cardiff Metropolitan University and the University of Chichester. His research focuses on methodological approaches to quantify energy expenditure and applied consultancy work with elite endurance athletes in extreme environments like the Marathon Des Sables and North Pole Marathon.

Research interests include oxygen uptake kinetics, thermal regulation, and performance optimization. He supervises PhD student Paul Wallis and has conducted applied projects on police fitness standards, hockey heat acclimation, and eSports athlete physiology. His consultancy work spans corporate health and elite sports performance.
