Andy Scott is a Professor of Saxophone and Composition at the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) and a Tutor in Saxophone. He specializes in contemporary classical music, jazz, and world music fusion, with a distinctive compositional and performance style. His roles include co-Artistic Director of the RNCM Saxophone Day and founder of the World Tenor Saxophone Consortium. He has received a British Composer Award for his double saxophone concerto Dark Rain (2006) and a BASCA nomination for Spirit of Mingus (2012).
- Performance groups: Apollo Saxophone Quartet, SaxAssault, Caliente Trio, and duo with percussionist Dave Hassell.
- Commissions: Concertos for RNCM tutors Craig Ogden (guitar) and Rex Richardson (trumpet) in 2016.
- Key Projects: Tenor Saxophone Index (2012, funded by RNCM Small Research Grant), World Tenor Saxophone Consortium (2003).
His works are performed globally, including a tenor saxophone concerto premiered by Branford Marsalis with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra (2012). An endorsee of Selmer Paris Saxophones and Vandoren, his music is published by Astute Music.
