Associate Professor Andy Redfern holds multiple roles: Associate Professor of Medical Oncology at the University of Western Australia, Associate Director for Clinical Strategy at the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research, Group Leader of the Perkins Translational Oncology Laboratory, Consultant Medical Oncologist at the Fiona Stanley Hospital, and Medical Director of Linear Clinical Research specializing in early phase human trials.
His primary research interests focus on understanding growth signalling pathways and resistance mechanisms to chemotherapy and hormone therapy in cancer, as well as differentiation, EMT (Epithelial-Mesenchymal Transition) in cancer progression, tumour-stroma interactions, and Indigenous cancer biology. His clinical practice centers on breast and urological cancers, with translational research bridging laboratory findings to clinical applications.
He actively leads clinical trials across all phases as principal investigator and chairs the State Breast Cancer Collaborative. His leadership extends to scientific advisory boards for the Cancer Council of Western Australia and the Australasian Breast Cancer Trials Group, driving strategic research initiatives in oncology.
As head of the Perkins Translational Oncology Laboratory and director of Linear Clinical Research, he oversees early-phase human trials and fosters collaborations to advance cancer therapeutics, with particular emphasis on addressing disparities in Indigenous cancer outcomes.
