University of the West of EnglandAbout
Andy Gibson is an Associate Professor in Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) within the Department of Health and Social Sciences at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol). He serves as academic lead for People in Health West of England, a UWE-led collaborative initiative partnering with NIHR ARC West, West of England Health Innovation Network, Research Delivery Network West of England, Bristol Biomedical Research Centre, and Bristol Health Partners.
His research centers on public involvement in health research, with emphasis on computer modelling applications and engagement of seldom heard groups including people with dementia. He developed the foundational conceptual framework for PPI (Gibson et al., 2012; 2017) and co-created the MRC-funded Public Involvement Impact Assessment Framework (PiiAF). Gibson pioneered the first UK conference building evidence for PPI in 2013 and addresses health inequalities through inclusive research methodologies.
Gibson previously established a nationally recognized PPI model at PenCLAHRC and currently leads the UWE patient and public involvement team, driving innovation in traditionally underserved research areas.
