Dr. Andy Bach is Professor of Environmental Geography at Western Washington University, where he has taught since 1995. He holds a PhD from Arizona State University and MA/BS from UC Davis.
His research examines glacial geomorphology, environmental change on Mt. Baker, Channeled Scablands, and soil genesis. Bach leads long-term studies of Easton Glacier retreat dynamics, documenting landscape transformation since the Little Ice Age through repeat photography and dendrochronology.
Publications include analyses of glacial retreat impacts on soil development and forest succession. Recent collaborative work explores digital health interventions and machine learning applications.
Bach teaches Introduction to Physical Geography, Climatology, Mountain Geography, and Soil Environment. He maintains field research programs in the North Cascades and Olympic Peninsula.
