André Singer

André Singer is a Research Professor at the Department of Anthropology and Sociology, SOAS University of London, and Adjunct Professor of Anthropology at the University of Southern California. He holds a DPhil from Oxford University and served as President (2014-2018) and Emeritus President of the Royal Anthropological Institute. His twin-track career spans academic anthropology and documentary filmmaking, with fieldwork in Iran and Afghanistan.

Research focuses on ethnographic film, cultural representation, and visual anthropology, particularly examining how media intersects with anthropological inquiry. Key areas include:

• Ethnographic methodologies in film
