André Heeres

Prof. André Heeres is a Professor of Biobased Chemistry at Hanze University of Applied Sciences in Groningen. He specializes in chemical modifications of biomass for applications in green chemicals, bioplastics, and medical uses. His research focuses on valorizing biomass residues like shrimp shells and glycoalkaloids. He holds a PhD from TNO Nutrition (modifications of polysaccharides) and has extensive experience in grant writing. He also works with Syncom, contributing to spin-off companies. Recent projects include sustainable polyester recycling and carbohydrate biorefinery technologies. His work aligns with UN SDGs for sustainable industry and climate action.
