András Geösel

Dr. András Geösel serves as Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Vegetable and Mushroom Cultivation within the Institute of Horticultural Sciences at the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (MATE). He assumed the head position in 2017 and has been an Associate Professor since then, following prior roles as Assistant Professor (2014-2017) and Teaching Assistant (2010-2014) at Corvinus University of Budapest and Szent István University. His administrative experience includes serving as Assistant Dean of Education at Szent István University's Faculty of Horticulture from 2017 to 2021.

Dr. Geösel's research centers on advancing mushroom cultivation through innovative strain selection and substrate optimization. He develops integrated pest management strategies for mushroom farms and investigates bioactive compounds in cultivated fungi. His work extends to vegetable production systems, medicinal mushroom applications, and sustainable cultivation techniques including the utilization of household organic waste as growth media.

His scientific contributions have been recognized with the Master Teacher Gold Medal (2021), a Certificate of appreciation for TDK supervisor activities (2014), and the Mária Antónia Krámer award (2013).

Professional service includes leadership roles in the Hungarian Academy of Sciences Horticulture and Food Science Committee (Secretary of the Vegetable Production Subcommittee, 2017-2021), the Hungarian Mycological Society (Board Member, 2016-2018), and international organizations including the World Society for Mushroom Biology and Mushroom Products (Vice-president since 2014) and the International Society for Mushroom Science (since 2013).
