Andrew Zimbalist is the Robert A. Woods Professor of Economics at Smith College and member of the Five College Graduate Faculty. He received his B.A. from University of Wisconsin-Madison (1969), and M.A./Ph.D. from Harvard University (1972/1974). His visiting appointments include Hamburg University, Doshisha University, and University of Geneva.
Research interests focus on sports economics, economic development, and Latin American political economy. His work examines stadium financing impacts, Olympic economics, college sports reform, and Cuban economic policy, combining empirical analysis with policy evaluation. Recent publications explore athlete compensation models and mega-event economic sustainability.
