Andrew Youde

Andrew Youde is a Senior Lecturer and Subject Lead for Undergraduate Education in the School of Education at the University of Huddersfield, where he is also a member of the Huddersfield Centre for Research in Education and Society (HudCRES). He is actively involved in research supervision and accepts PhD students in areas related to online education, emotional intelligence, and educational leadership.

His research interests center on the skills and qualities of online tutors, particularly the role of emotional intelligence in blended and distance learning environments. Additional areas of focus include educational administration, vocational education policy (especially in China), adolescent perceptions of intimate partner violence, and leadership in early childcare. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to quality education and reduced inequalities.

Andrew Youde has authored or co-authored 23 research outputs, including journal articles, conference papers, and book chapters. His recent publications analyze emotional intelligence in higher education, policy impacts on teachers in China, and sociological perspectives on educational partnerships. His work shows a consistent focus on improving educational practice through empirical and theoretical inquiry.

He regularly serves as an external examiner for PhD theses at other institutions, including the University of Bolton, University of Central Lancashire, and University of Middlesex. He has delivered oral and invited presentations on his research and contributed expert commentary in the media on topics such as questionnaire design and doctoral supervision practices.
