Andrew Ward

Andrew Ward is a Senior Lecturer in Healthcare Sciences (Life Science) and Programme Leader for BSc Healthcare Science Practitioner (Life) at the University of Sunderland. He holds HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist with 30 years of NHS diagnostic laboratory experience, including roles at North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust. His expertise spans clinical microbiology, antimicrobial testing, and infection control. He mentors trainees and serves as an IBMS Portfolio External Assessor. Research focuses on microbial therapeutics, Clostridioides difficile, and hospital disinfection technologies. Awards include Chartered Scientist and Chartered Manager status.

Teaching includes BSc Biomedical Science and Healthcare Sciences modules such as apprenticeship placement and research investigation. He leads modules HCS230, HCS326, and HCA102. His professional memberships include the Institute of Biomedical Science and Chartered Management Institute.
