Andrew Thompson is Associate Professor of Theological Ethics and Director of the Center for Religion and Environment at Sewanee. He holds a Ph.D. from Yale University, M.A.R. from Yale Divinity School, and B.A. from Duquesne University.
His research examines:
- Whiteness in Christian environmentalism
- Colonial legacies in ecological theology
- Antiracist ethical frameworks
- Community-based environmental action
Publications include Reconsider the Lilies: Challenging Christian Environmentalism's Colonial Legacy (2023) and All My Holy Mountain: A Christian Ethical Response to Mountaintop Removal Coal Mining (2015).
Professor Thompson previously served as an Episcopal missionary in El Salvador, helping establish a school and rural mission.
