Prof Andrew Taylor is an Adjunct Professor at Monash University and a full-time cardiologist at The Alfred Hospital. He serves as Director of Cardiac Magnetic Resonance (CMR) Imaging and Head of Cardiac CT in the Heart Failure and Heart Transplant service. He is also an Honorary Scientist at the Baker Heart and Diabetes Institute and a Director of the National Heart Foundation (Victorian Branch). His research focuses on cardiac fibrosis characterization using CMR techniques, atherosclerotic plaque rupture, and cardiovascular disease mechanisms. He has pioneered non-invasive assessment of myocardial fibrosis via CMR T1 mapping, earning international recognition including the 2001 European Society of Cardiology Young Investigator Award and the 2011 CSANZ Ralph Reader Clinical Science Prize.
Since 2005, Taylor has secured over $4 million in funding and published over 110 peer-reviewed articles. He supervises PhD students and serves on editorial boards for journals like European Heart Journal and JACC. His recent projects include studies on myocardial inflammation in rheumatic heart disease and preclinical therapeutics for heart failure. He actively participates in global cardiology conferences and contributes to clinical guidelines through his leadership roles.
