ANDREW SULLY is a Lecturer in Visual Arts at the Sydney College of the Arts, University of Sydney. He holds a PhD from Macquarie University's Department of Media, Music, Communications and Cultural Studies. His work spans documentary and drama filmmaking, with notable projects including Bespoke (ABC TV, 2015), Anatomy of a Massacre (2009), and a multiplatform documentary on Timor-Leste titled The Spirits of Tasi Tolu.
Education: BA, MA (Melbourne University), PhD (Macquarie University).
Research interests focus on audio-visual documentation of political violence, Timor-Leste documentary filmmaking, and short fiction direction. Current teaching includes CAMI5001 (Narrative Elements), CAMI5003 (Screen and Sound Strategies), and CAEL3016/MFDI9333 (Experimental Film).
Awards include three awards at the 2009 International Wildlife Film Festival, ATOM Awards, and the Poitiers Film Festival Grand Prix. He has directed over 20 films across ABC TV, ITV, and international platforms.
Current projects include the SACE-supported Spirits of Tasi Tolu, and a multiplatform documentary exploring trans-mediated movements through animation, video games, and robotics with student Will.
